History tells us that the first maps were made of the heavens and now, modern technology through satellite made possible by Google Mapmaker the capability of drawing the face of the Earth. With the Globalization, travel will be part of such progress. Imagine yourself going to a place you've never been, your not familiar with , and you have no relative or a tour guide to lead the way for you. Do you think you will survive? Will you be able to roam around freely without getting lost?

Definitely , your answer should be a big NO!  But now, through Google Maps you can have a view of the place you wish to visit. With this breakthrough, we can actually view the place as if we were there. Looking for establishments and buildings, tourist spots, merchandising, banks, infrastructures, street names, and even directions from point to a point is already available. Isn't this amazing what it can offer?

Well, there is a problem, Google Maps only provides the picture of the place and that's where the Google Mapping Advocacy comes in.  The labels, pictures and videos you see in Google Maps were actually contributed by the "Google Mappers". If you ask me, "Why should I be an advocate?". I can sight Three (3) answers to that. 

No. 3. Make it as a hobby. If your the person who has all the time in the world, why not spend it in better things. You can take pictures or make videos of places in your locality. Well, it can make you famous in a sense that when someone views your area, your name will be seen on the contributors panel.

No. 2. If you want to put your place on the map and let it be known, be part of the advocacy. You can promote tourism in your area. It will help travelers all over the world be familiar with your place. Sounds good right? Well, not just that, If your a businessman, you can map out your establishment and it will make it easier for your local and non-local investors or consumers to easily track you down. 

No.1. Did you know that the Red Cross is encouraging Google Mapping? Why? Natural Calamities might occur and thus, a clear labeling and mapping can be a good source of information on how to reach a particular area in distress. Wow! By just simple clicking with your mouse, you were able to save lives! Isn't that great? So be the modern hero! Locate schools, hospitals, and government offices which can be of great aid in times of distress!
